Guardians of the Galaxy Extended Trailer – Marvel’s Surprise Hit

Guardians of the Galaxy just released a new extended trailer that basically continues everything they’ve been doing with the past few trailers. Each one has gotten bigger and better; and this one is no exception. With less than a month until it’s release, there’s a safe bet that this will be the final trailer for the film. Though that is perfectly fine because I don’t think it’s possible to be any more excited for this film that we already are. The humor, the action, the story. Everything just looks perfect.

Not The Losers You Thought They Were:

When we first met the Guardians, they were introduced as ‘a bunch of a-holes’, which then seemed to get promoted to losers. As a lesser-known franchise, many people probably wondered the same thing. Though after following the evolution of these trailers, we’ve come to see there is a lot more to them than meets the eye; and Peter Quill’s ‘bunch of losers’ speech perfectly reflects that.

When we first heard Quill utter these words, it seemed like this was a film about a bunch of misfit losers who join together and form something great. Now that very well is much of the premise of the movie; but seeing the extended version of Quill’s speech actually gives us much more depth/plot-lines for this film.

Because I’m one of the idiots who lives in it! – Peter Quill

The term ‘loser’, doesn’t mean loser in the usual connotation of ‘pathetic’; but rather as “folks who have lost stuff”. Whether their homes or their families, each member of this team has lost a lot; and now they must work together to not only find something left for themselves; but also to make sure what they went through never happens to anyone else. This elevates this seemingly ‘zero to hero’ story and gives it a much greater depth.

An additional detail that was great to hear was when Rocket asked Peter Quill why he wanted to save the Galaxy; and Quill responds, “Because I’m one of the idiots who lives in it!” This is a perfect addition because it reminds us – and the characters – that this affects everyone. They’re not just saving the universe because ‘it’s the right thing to do’; but because this is a threat on such a large scale that no one is safe.

Drax Finally Speaks!:

Each trailer has given us a new look at one of the Guardians. In the first, we heard Peter Quill speak; the second let thug-duo of Rocket and Groot take center stage; and the last one finally let us hear Gamora say a few words. Keeping with this tradition, we FINALLY get to hear Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer.

In past trailers we just saw him look menacing while smashing things; but in this trailer we see that he isn’t that much of a maniac. He’s not the dim-witted mercenary you might have thought him to be. As we see him talking to Peter Quill, he wants to be part of the team and is willing to follow them into battle. Once again, we get a deeper look at this character and – much like Gamora ‘the assassin’ before him – we learn that his nickname of ‘maniac’ might too be misunderstood.

Drax

There was a lot of new footage in this trailer as well that included Ronan, the Accuser – the Kree villain of this film – finally speaking as well as a glimpse of Michael Rooker’s character Yondu. All of these details just continue to add to the overwhelming feeling that this film is going to be great. Watching this trailer I actually get Goosebumps. At one time we didn’t think this film could work; and now it looks like it wont be anything less than amazing. Stay tuned because Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters August 1st.
