The International trailer for Godzilla was just released; and even though it combines the audio of both the previously released teaser and full length trailer – giving us no new story information – it did give us a lot of new footage, as well as confirmation on one of the monsters. There’s not many new things to report on, so let’s quickly touch upon those and THEN, show off the main monster(s) Godzilla will be facing.
The Human Element:

We find Lieutenant Ford, the lead HALO jumper played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, at home with his wife Elle, played by Elizabeth Olsen.
From seeing the soldiers in the HALO jump, which was part of the initial movie teaser, to a man’s quest to dispel a government coverup, which was the premise of the full-length trailer , we got a first hand glimpse at how human relationships and fears were at the center of this film – with one of the most famous monsters of all time thrown in. This new International trailer links these two trailers together and continues this human element for this film.
Mutos Confirmation:
In my last article, I looked at a couple of quick scenes of the trailer and hypothesized that there would be multiple muto’s – the films name for monsters – as well as what they might look like. Well – and I love saying this – CALLED IT! That curved piece of debris was in fact a foot. This was initially confirmed when several toy images were released, with one of them featuring an insect-like monster with hooked feet. The images were far too grainy, but lucky I came across this rendering of the monster in question – taken from SDCC 2013 footage.

As you can see, the back hooked piece of debris was in fact a foot – specifically this monster’s foot.
As you can see the feet exactly match the upward hooked object we saw about to crush soldier last time. Now are there more than one of this monster? We don’t know; however, we might have other types of mutations. Remember that arrow-shapped object I thought looked more like a monster than another falling plane? Again, CALLED IT!
Now whether this is the same monster as the one in the featured art with the hooked feet remains to be seen. There are no wings present on the – lets call him – mantis muto; nor does this one look as bulky as the other. So either a set of claw arms can elongate like a glider or there’s more than just one. A few other shots from the trailer point to there being multiple monsters for Godzilla to fight, but why is he fighting them?

As hypothesized, that wasn’t just another plane. It was a monster as you can see from the new trailer.
Well rumor has it that these creature are mutations that feed off radioactive energy, which would explain the nuclear power plant explosion we saw in the first trailer. This would also explain why these monsters would be hunting down Godzilla. If all those nuclear tests in the Pacific were in fact trying to kill it, Godzilla would have absorbed a lot of radiation. As I also pointed out last time around, we saw what appeared to be eggs laid around buried warheads – not a tentacle as some thought. These muto’s clearly are reproducing and need a radioactive source for lay said eggs. ERGO, that’s why they are hunting Godzilla, to kill him and lay eggs inside his highly radioactive carcass. We the people are merely caught up in his fight for survival.
Bit by bit we are learning more and more about this movie. The team has done an amazing job at keeping this film under wraps and we won’t know the real story – or even all the monsters present – until the movie actually comes out. So until then, I’ll keep looking into anything and everything that comes out about this movie and sharing it with all of you.
Check out the gallery for more images from the trailer as well as full concept art of the ‘Mantis Muto’:
- What’s a monster movie without a little destruction?
- Okay, make that A LOT of destruction
- Even something as simple as a flood makes this movie much better than past monster flicks. If a giant beast is coming out of the water, there is going to be a tidal surge
- “The arrogance of man is thinking that nature is within our control, and not the other way around”
- The Mantis Muto is revealed in this SDCC footage rendering.
- This might not be the ‘Mantis Muto’ due to its more streamline design, but it still looks very formidable. Can’t wait to find out more
- Hmm, these drag marks could be from Godzilla’s tail, but then we’d see footprints as well. Perhaps the rumors of a centipede-like Muto are true.

they are hiding centipede for surprise blieve me!!
That would be cool! They’ve done a great job of slowly revealing things as it is, so it’d be awesome if they still have a few aces up their sleeves, which i think they will. 🙂
I saw the movie and it was AMAZING i thought the monster was Mothra (not in worm form) but now i know that it is MUtos
Haha, yup. A lot of people were mistaking it as Mothra, but we always knew it was MUTO here. Though it was an amazing movie and I can’t wait for the sequel 😀
