Assassins Creed: Comet – Building Upon The Kenway Trilogy

Assassins Creed

A few weeks ago we got out first glimpse at Assassins Creed: Unity, the latest title from Ubisoft hitting the PS4/Xbox One this holiday season. But did you know a completely different game was being released as well? I certainly hope so, I told you about it last time. Well the wait is over and we finally have some info about the Assassins Creed: Comet thanks to Kotaku; and despite its last gen platforming, it sounds amazing.

Releasing two games in one year is quite ambitious, but it seems as though Ubisoft is in fact dividing the game mechanics as I originally reported. Whereas Unity will have a very Assassins Creed II feel to it with its lavish city architecture, Comet will take place on the open seas of the Atlantic Ocean and the majority of the East Coast of North America.

As for the who and when, Assassins Creed: Comet follows a sailor and templar – that’s right, you heard me – a templar named Shay living in 1758 New York. If this reminds you of the start of Assassin’s Creed III where you play as Templar Haytham Kenway, you’re exactly right. In fact, Haytham Kenway will be making a few appearances in this game – which makes sense since this takes place before the main events of ACIII where Haytham is the Grand Master of the Templar Order in the colonies.

It's time to return to the American Colonies of ACIII.

It’s time to return to the American Colonies of ACIII.

Though he won’t be the only cameo in this new game. Comet will be the direct sequel to Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, although Edward Kenway won’t be making an appearance due to the events of his tragic death in 1735. On the other hand, his first-mate Adewale – the star of Assassins Creed: Freedom Cry – will play a vital role. Nothing has been confirmed, but I’m also willing to be Achilles Davenport – Connor’s mentor, as well as the mentor of the Colonial Assassin Brotherhood – will play an important role as well.

So again, familiar mechanics and new lands sounds like a great way to close out Ubisoft’s reign over Playstation 3 history. So get ready to set sail once more! And be sure to stay tuned here for any image updates as well as announcement trailers.

UPDATE: These rumors have been confirmed as the new game by Ubisoft entitled Assassins Creed: Rogue. Watch the announcement trailer and learn more here.
