With the series finale of How I Met Your Mother only a few hours away, let’s count down the Top 5 things we want to see from tonight’s hour long special. So without further to do:

5) The Pineapple Incident Explained:

This one is a long shot, but with so many other storylines wrapped up (Blah Blah’s real name, the final slap, etc), it’d be nice if we had some closure on this one too. Is it mandatory? No not really, but this is just a personal request.

4) How He Met The Mother/ What’s Her Name:

The moment of first interaction between Ted and the mother has been anticipated ever since Season 1. We just want to hear those magic words, “And that’s the story of how I met your mother”. So let’s see some of Barney and Robin’s wedding reception and finally move onto the main event – meeting the mother and her yellow umbrella at the train station.

 Of course where there’s an introduction, there’s also an exchanging of names. So unless the mother is actually named “Mom” – in a very FairlyOdd Parents turn of events – this first meeting would be when we finally learn the mother’s name.

3) Barney and Robin Still Together:

This is less for Barney & Robin fans and more for the simple fact that the Ted & Robin ship has sailed – numerous times. A recent shot from tonight’s episode has some thinking it will happen. Whether paired with the mother’s death – and/or Robin leaving Barney – that somehow Ted and Robin will get back together.

No! Just no. I don’t even know if I have time to go into all the reasons why this shouldn’t happen. Though in short, Ted closed the book on them in this last episode when Robin wanted to leave her wedding with him. Also, Ted & Robin getting together now would basically throw away everything that happened for the past several seasons. And please, how is Ted going to explain to his kids that their Aunt Robin is now their mother? That is one spin-off I don’t want to see.

2) More of Ted and the Mother Dating:

Last episode we saw a bit of Ted and the mother’s first date; and it was adorable. In fact, everything between them has been amazing till now. Personally, I had hoped Barney and Robins wedding/meeting the mother would be the season finale and this last season was all Ted and the mother dating. Well, we might not get a season of dating, but seeing more of these two get to know each other and be cute together is exactly what we need.

1) The Mother Lives:

Pretty self-explanatory, but in case you haven’t heard, there is a popular fan theory that says the mother will die before Ted’s telling of this story. Now, if your feeling nervous, then maybe you should read my article with all the evidence why the mother ISN’T dead. Though at the end of the day, if they end with the mother we’ve waited so long to meet being dead, that would be a tremendous heartbreak ending for this TV comedy. This season has restored a lot of HIMYM’s former glory, so lets not waste it. Let everything end happily-ever-after; and save the crazy twist endings for an M. Night Shyamalan movie.
