A couple of months ago we got our first look at the upcoming Ratchet & Clank Reboot due out in 2016 for Playstation 4. With a film scheduled as well some would wonder if this would just be over-saturating fans of the original game. Although thank to Paris Games Week we just got another peak at the game. And whereas it shows us more of the updated graphics and gameplay like the first trailer, we also found something GLORIOUS … or should I say Nefarious?
Doctor Nefarious Returns … For The First Time:
If you’re unfamiliar with the history of Ratchet & Clank, Dr Nefarious was originally the nemesis of Captain Qwark and returned in many games as the sole villain and occasionally as an cameo the few times he wasn’t. Though things are a little different this time around as we find Dr Nefarious still a “squishy”. You see Dr Nefarious – while usually a robot bent on cybertizing every biological thing in the universe – wasn’t always a robot. As we learned in Up Your Arsenal, he was originally just an evil genius who after battle Captain Qwark became a robot.
So the fact that this game is giving us Dr Nefarious pre-robot is a wonderful thing! Sure Chairman Drek is a good villain; but Nefarious has staying power. If this game serves as a set up for Nefarious to again be a returning villain in this Rebooted Ratchet & Clank franchise, then that is even more reason to be excited for things to come. And to add to the awesome, original voice actor Armin Shimerman is returning to the role. Now we just need to hope his wise cracking butler Lawrence does as well.
The extent to which he’ll be in the game remains to be seen as the last trailer seemed like a ‘Ratchet in training’ trailer while this one paints a picture of Ratchet already being a full-fledged ranger. Does this mean that this game will have DLC stories or that the game is of a much larger scale than the original. Either – or both – could be true. More info is sure to come out in the coming months, and I’m aiming to get as much info about the game as possible – beyond these trailers from Insomniac.
So with any luck, check back here for one of my usual ‘Everything You Need To Know’ articles for Ratchet & Clank. And at the very least, I will be doing my Tips & Tricks articles once it hit stores early 2016.
