Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the Series finale of How I Met Your Mother pissed off a lot of people. Between people starting a petition to some even cursing Colbie Smulders out while watching Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier – seriously, I’ve seen this sadly happen more than once – people were clearly upset.  Well, what if I told you there was a second chance, an alternate ending. No, not the fan made alternate ending which is fantastic; but an actual official Alternate Ending.

How I Met Your Mother creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays responded to the fan backlash and said that even though they stand by their decision, they actually shot an alternative ending to the show. As a thank you to the fans who watched since the beginning, but felt horribly slighted by the finale, they are including the bonus ending in the series box set.

Now on one hand, this is great news. It shows that we the fans do make a difference and they want to fix things – even if they don’t admit the ending was an awful choice. Although I am slightly hesitant about this reveal as well.

How I Got You To Buy The Box Set

Before we even see this new ending, we have to buy a box set of the entire series to do so. Call me jaded, but part of this sounds a little like a ploy to get the upset fans to buy the series box set – which makes sense since the upset fans are the overwhelming majority. Personally, I won’t be buying the box set. I will try to watch this ending online when it comes out, but for me, the series is over. Take what you will from it and remember the good times.
