Cosplayer Of The Month: Juby Headshot (July 2015)

It’s that time again – New Month, New Cosplayer – and after a short detour for Fathers Day (with the Cosplay Dad) we’re moving into the next phase of our World Tour Of Cosplay. Thus far, we’ve met some incredible South American Cosplayers (Danielle and Lady Lemon) as well as some awesome North American Cosplayers (Adel and Its-A-Me Cosplay). Though now we’re leaving behind the Americas – and the Western Hemisphere entirely – to head to Europe!

Surprised? Yes, Europe has Cosplay and conventions too! And whereas it might be a little unfair to compare the numbers, the quality of European Conventions and Cosplay is up there with the best of them! Though what makes the European scene so interesting is how so many different countries – usually speaking different languages – are able to come together and celebrate their fandom as one. So without further to do, it’s time to meet this month’s STELLAR Spanish Cosplayer: Juby Headshot!

Juby Headshot

Despite wanting to cosplay for quite a while, Juby Headshot only started about 2 years ago in 2013 when she decided to attend Saló del Manga in Barcelona as Katarina from the game League of Legends. Prop making is tough – even for experienced cosplayers – but Juby plowed ahead and manage to finish the outfit and weapons on time. And just like that, the cosplayer side of her was born – now she just needed to decide upon a name.

Now I’m sure you were wondering about that name. Well the ‘Juby’ part is actually a nickname she had as a teenager; but it’s the Headshot one that might have you really confused. Well as all gamers know, a headshot is a one shot kill to the head and this is Juby perfectly. Whether her cosplays or her comments, Juby needs just one shot to leave you impressed! Plus, her favorite League of Legends character – Caitlyn – just so happens to specialize in Headshots. All in all, it was the perfect name combination for her.

Like most cosplayers, Juby selects her costumes based upon how much she likes the “design and personality of [a] character”. Pair that with her affinity for League of Legends – a game with a ton of characters as well as variant costumes for those characters – and you have a recipe for variation. Whereas some might prefer to stick to sewing, armor making or any particular style they’re familiar with, Juby aims to experience all types of Cosplay. For her, it’s all about the experience and one thing that all her costumes have in common is fantastic wig work. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her use the same wig twice.

Whether its “sewing fabrics, making props, cutting wigs, [etc]”, she strives to learn as much as possible and master them like all the rest – and her range of incredible costumes certainly show this off! Although at the end of the day, she does have her favorite; and that title belongs to Esdeath from Akame Ga Kill! Between Esdeath being a powerful character and having a crisp and intricate design, it’s easy to see why she really loves this character. But why does Juby love to Cosplay?

Well by now you’ve probably realized that Cosplay is a lot of fun, and if you’re cosplaying then you should enjoy your costume as much as possible! From making new friends to taking pride in seeing how it all came together, there’s so many ways Cosplay can not only bring people together, but also bring out the best version of you!

Cosplay taught me to be myself and to overcome all the [negative] opinions and criticism [of others]… Also, Cosplay gave me the opportunity to meet different people – some of whom have became some of my best friends! It’s cosplayers that are such a big part of why conventions are so much fun! – Juby Headshot

And with people as fun as Juby attending these conventions, you can certainly see why they’re so enjoyable! No matter how simple or complex the costume, Juby’s silly side always comes out; and it’s almost impossible to not smile back with her. Cosplayer like Juby remind us that Cosplay isn’t just about ‘the costumes you have’; but rather ‘the fun you have making and wearing your costumes’!

Juby Headshot Fun

When Juby isn’t cosplaying, she’s busy working; but she still finds time for friends, anime, video games, studying dressmaking and going to the gym. No doubt those last two will lead to some even more kickass cosplays. Speaking of which, Juby just finished up a cosplay of Hestia – from the series DanMachi aka ‘Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?’ – and might soon be starting a Cosplay of Headhunter Caitlyn from League of Legends. Yes, the very same Caitlyn who inspired the ‘Headshot’ in “Juby Headshot”! So you can imagine how much time and dedication she’ll put towards doing this costume right!

As for whether or not this awesome lady will be coming to a Convention near you, don’t loose hope! Juby loves to travel and is definitely curious about Conventions outside of Europe. Do they have more guests? Are there different merchants? How many more events are there? Well if Juby ever decides to visit a Convention in the United States, I know one Panda who’s more than happy to help! 😀
